Slovenian country music/back to Lake Bled
Last night we stumbled across a couple of Slovenian guys playing some real traditional American country music, so we decided to check them out. Best decision ever – there was a great crowd there and they were enthusiastic about the music and it was a great atmosphere overall. They were called the “Pointless Rebels”. We stayed for their whole show and when I talked to them during a set break and told them how much I liked their music and that I am over here to play country music as well, they even invited me up to do “Mama Tried” to kick off their set. It was a lot of fun and I got a good crowd response, so that’s even more encouragement on the music front!
This morning was the saddest time of the trip when I had to take Anna Maria to the train station and say goodbye until the beginning of September when she returns for another visit with me. We had a nice time together, but she’s going home to study for her boards and start life as an attending physician. While I travel, play music, and enjoy life. And it was her idea for me to do all this! like I said, I have the best wife in the world.
After seeing her off, I went back and picked up the boys and we headed to Lake Bled. I wanted to take them to the castle for the view of the lake that Anna Maria and I had a few days ago, but during the day they charge 11 euros to enter the castle and we didn’t want to pay that just for a view. The guy working in the parking lot suggested to us a path through the woods to a clearing where we could get a decent view of the lake. This was one sketchy path, and I’m pretty sure I got into some poison ivy, but we did at least get the view and saved the money!
After the view, we went down to the beach and did a little swimming and lounging around. Nobody thought to wear sunscreen and now all three of us look like lobsters.
After the beach, we made our way to our Airbnb which is only 4km from Lake Bohinj. We like it here and saw some nice scenery on the way and even came across a very unique WW2 memorial in a very small town on the route.
That’s all I have for today. Tomorrow I’m planning on taking them up the Russian Road to see Vrsic pass and then we will go to Lake Bohinj. Talk to you guys soon.

Wow! Just checking out this blog entry for the second time and that war memorial with the German helmets and rifles is very interesting and very unique for sure! I love the close up you took of Mary Anne, she is just stunning. It sure looks like you and your friends are having the time of your life! I’m so glad you are able to live your dreams, only a few seem to do so for one reason or another. Stay safe and keep on discovering what makes the world go round!
